Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
