Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
