No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
June 26th, 2017 by Angeline

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
