Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While wagering on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
