NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
