Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
