Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players often get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same concept in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base nuances of the game with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing assortment of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous players trying for the high, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
